Standard procedures
Conformal radiotherapy
Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy is standard in all practices. The procedure is usually based on a computer tomography (CT). After the radiotherapist has established the exact target region and the risk organs for the radiation, the medical physicist uses a computer program to calculate the radiation fields and the dose distribution. Due to the three-dimensional, computer-aided radiation planning and reproducible positioning of the patient, the conformal radiotherapy procedure allows a precise irradiation of the tumour with maximum protection for the healthy tissue.
